York College offers a variety of courses for both biology majors and non majors. Biology classes geared toward the Biology Major include the introductory sequences of Biology I and II, which prepare the student for more advanced classes taken in the sophomore through senior years. The upper division electives are diverse and allow a student to concentrate on either molecular or organismal biology. These electives include Biology of Microorganisms, Immunology, Cell & Molecular Biology, Developmental Biology, Zoology, Animal Behavior, Plant Systematics, Marine Ecology, and Evolutionary Biology. As a part of the liberal arts curriculum at York College, all students are expected to take at least 2 lab science classes to fulfill an Area Distribution Requirement. The Biology Department offers an array of options for the non major to choose from, including Field Natural History, Biology of Animals, Microbes:Unseen life on earth, Freshwater Ecology, Marine Biology, and Oceanography.
