Dining Services

My child is a picky eater. Does York College provide a varied menu?

Chartwells Dining Services, a division of Compass Group North American Division, is the food service company for York College, and the leader of food service in the world.  We provide a variety of meal plan options that will satisfy any budget. We also understand the importance of good food and every effort is made to provide quality, value, and assortment of food options every day.

At the Johnson Dining Hall, located on the first floor of the Student Union building, students can select from a wide variety such as: comfort foods at the Origins Station with  rotating entrees, “Balanced Choices” Station featuring vegetarian and healthy food options, The Fresh Grille, serving grilled entrees, burgers, fries, etc, Garden Salad Bar, made to order Deli Station, Pizza and Hot Sandwich location, Pasta Station, fresh in house baked goods at the Double Treat Bakery, Hand-Scooped   Ice Cream, Hot Soup Bar and  Refreshment areas featuring fountain beverages and Seatle’s Best Coffee.

The students' can also frequent our Spart's Den Food Court, located in the lower level of the Student Union building, featuring  Fresh Grill, Trattoria Pizza and Pasta Station, Outtakes Grab N Go Sandwiches and Snacks,  Salad Bar, Au Bon Pain Soup, and  bottle and fountain refreshments.  The Spart's Den is a great facility with couches, booths, bar stools, pool tables, foosball, internet hook-ups, and two 42" flat screen televisions.  Always check with the SAB (Student Activity Board) for all the events and performs coming to Spart's Den.  Spart's Den is the best place on campus to relax between classes, meet friends for lunch, or catch-up on the national news. 

We also have other retail locations on the York College campus. Campbell Coffee in Campbell Hall has many things to offer including Starbucks Coffee, Tazo Tea, Cappuccino, Latte, Mocha, Espresso and iced coffees. Outtakes include grab and go sandwiches, wraps and salads, fresh fruit cup, soft pretzels, yogurts, chips, Cremice Blended Drinks and bottle refreshments. 

Pura Vida Café located in the New Humanities Center is a Seattle-based gourmet coffee company.  The company uses all of its resources to assist at-risk children and their families in coffee growing countries.  Their devotion to helping at-risk children and families begins with a commitment to carry 100% certified Fair Trade, Organic, shade grown coffee, raising the living standards for farmers and their communities while protecting the environment.

In addition to coffee, Pura Vida Cafe offers salads, sandwiches, paninis, wraps, healthy snacks and fresh baked goods as well as Meal Exchange.

Courtside Cafe at the Grumbacher Center offers a variety of items for students needing a quick snack after hitting the gym. A selection of smoothies, healthy snacks, vitamin waters, soft drinks, Seattle’s Best Coffee, fresh fruit and Game Day Snacks (hot dogs, popcorn, soft pretzels) are available as well as Meal Exchange.

In all of the retail locations, students are able to use their meal plan for a meal exchange.  The student can go to any of these locations and choose a full meal for lunch and dinner which includes a sandwich, snack, dessert, and drink.   

Care Packages - Since being away at college can be a lonely experience not only for the students, but for the parents as well, Chartwells has a special service for parents' to tell their child how much they are missed.
