Disk Utilization
All users of the York College Computer Network have agreed to follow the Computing Policy. They should also be familiar with general rules of usage and procedures.Amount of Storage File Space Allowed (H: drive):
Students: Students are normally provided 1 gigabyte of space for their home drive. If students exceed the allotted amount of space provided, then the following series may occur:
1. The student will be sent an email warning that they have exceeded the 1 gigabyte of space and that they have 1 week to remove enough files to fall below the 1 gigabyte limit.
2. If no action is taken on by the student, then the student will be sent a second warning email.
3. If no action is taken by the student, then the network account will be frozen, and they will no longer have access to their network account.
4. If this occurs, then the student can go to the IT Help Desk located in PAC 181 to have this resolved.
*If a student requires more space for academic work, they need to contact their professor to then contact the IT Help Desk to request more network space.
Faculty: There is currently no limit for faculty; however, please understand due to the nature of shared space, we will ask you to reduce the amount of files stored if the space is used in excess.
How to Access Your Storage File Space (H: Drive):
(Windows) 1. Click on the "Start" button
2. Click on "My Computer"
3. The Network Drive you are looking for is tagged with your username which is mapped to the H: drive. Ex: If your username is jsmith6 then it would be labeled as jsmith6 on (H:).
How to delete files from your H: Drive:
(Windows) 1. Click on the "Start" button
2. Click on "My Computer"
3. The Network Drive you are looking for is tagged by the drive labeled H:
4. Double click on this drive and then individually select the materials that you would like to delete.
5. A caution window will open asking if you are sure you want to delete that particular material. Click Yes.
*If you accidentally delete something from your H: drive, you have one week to contact the IT Help Desk. They may be able to assist you in restoring the files. If you wait longer than one week, the information will be lost permanently.
How to Check the Amount of Your H: Drive Space:
- Click on the "Start" button
- Click on My Computer"
- Open your H: Drive
- Click on "Edit" and scroll down to "select all"
- Right click then click on "Properties"
